The flu or influenza is a contagious infection of the nose, throat, and lungs caused by any one of a number of influenza viruses. Influenza is often transmitted as an airborne virus by coughing or sneezing, but can also be transmitted by direct contact with contaminated surfaces or nasal secretions. Common symptoms of the flu include, fever, sore throat, muscle pain, headache, coughing, chills, and fatigue.
