Incontinence is characterized by the inability to control the release of urine and/or feces from the body. Urinary incontinence or enuresis refers to the inability to keep urine from leaking out of the urethra, while anal incontinence or bowel incontinence refers to loss of bowel control that results in involuntary defecation.
