What are Tension-Type Headaches?
A tension-type headache (TTH) is generally a mild to moderate pain that's often described as feeling like a tight band around the head. A tension-type headache is the most common type of headache, yet its causes aren't well understood.
- Might be felt as a tight band of pain around your head
- A dull ache or pressure
- Can be occasional or occur more than 15 days a month (chronic)
Most occasional tension-type headaches are easily treated with over-the-counter medications, including:
- Aspirin
- Ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin IB, others)
- Acetaminophen (Tylenol, others)
