Macular degeneration is a medical condition that gradually reduces sharp, central vision by destroying the macula, the light sensitive layer of tissue in the center of the retina. Macular degeneration is often referred to as Age-Related Macular Degeneration (ARMD), because it is most common in those over the age of 60.
